How Much Plumbing Jobs Cost Around Conway: Ranges and What Changes the Price
Wide ranges for the jobs Conway homeowners ask about, what pushes each one up or down and what to ask before work begins.
Use these Conway price ranges to judge a quote
The figures below are wide ranges for common jobs, meant to help you judge whether a quote is in a sensible neighborhood. They are not quotes and not promises. Your job can fall below or above a range, and the table says where that is most likely.
Price depends on the house as much as the job: how easy the work is to reach, what is behind the wall or under the floor, what the local code asks for and what parts the job needs. A fixed figure given before anyone has seen the problem is a guess, so we describe what we would look at instead.
Typical ranges for common plumbing jobs
Ranges for the jobs people ask about most. Each job links to its page.
| Job | Typical range | What moves the price |
|---|---|---|
| Tank water heater replacement | $800 to $2,800 | Tank size, gas or electric, venting, expansion tank, placement and permit. |
| Tankless water heater installation | $1,400 to $4,800 | Gas line size, electrical capacity, exterior venting and the unit chosen. |
| Drain cleaning with a cable | $175 to $600 | Cleanout access, and whether the clog is at a fixture or on the main line. |
| Hydro jetting a main sewer line | $350 to $1,000 | Length of pipe, roots or grease, and access to a cleanout. |
| Slab leak detection and spot repair | $600 to $4,500 | Detection time, foundation depth, and breaking concrete or rerouting overhead. |
| Trenchless sewer pipe lining | $2,000 to $8,500 | Footage lined, pipe diameter and the condition of the old pipe. Long runs can exceed this. |
| Garbage disposal replacement | $200 to $625 | Motor size, outlet access and the sink flange. |
| Gas line repair or short extension | $350 to $1,400 | Length of run, pressure testing and appliance connection. Digging adds to it. |
Ranges are estimates for planning. A written quote after someone has seen the work is the number that counts.

Hot water: what moves the price of a tank or tankless job
A tank replacement is the narrower range because the work is routine: remove the old unit, set the new one, connect water, gas or power, and test. The spread comes from the tank size, whether the unit is gas or electric, and the venting. A gas unit may need new venting or a drain pan, and a closed water system often needs an expansion tank. Moving the unit, for example from a low closet to a raised platform, adds labor.
Placement matters in Conway more than in many places. Parts of the area flood, and the City of Conway has floodplain rules that include a minimum height for water heaters in mapped flood zones. Ask the city's construction services office at 843-488-9888 whether your address is covered. A tankless unit costs more up front and often needs a larger gas line, more electrical capacity or a new vent, which is why its range is wide. The installation page and tankless page explain the choice.
Drains and sewer lines: why one clog costs more than another
A clog at a sink or tub with a nearby cleanout sits at the low end of its range. A clog on the main line, far from a cleanout, or one caused by roots sits higher. If a line keeps clogging, clearing it repeatedly can add up to more than inspecting it once, and a camera inspection shows whether the pipe is cracked, bellied or full of roots. Hydro jetting is priced above cable cleaning because it uses more equipment and time, and heavy roots or a long run push it higher. See drain cleaning, hydro jetting and sewer line repair.
Digging is where sewer prices climb. Wet ground can make trenching slower, utilities have to be located first through 811, and the notice takes three to twelve full working days. Lining a pipe without digging avoids much of that, and its range is wide because of footage and pipe condition. For a long run, the cost can go above the range shown. The trenchless sewer repair page compares lining and digging.
Leaks under the floor and in the ground
Finding a leak and fixing it are separate costs. Detection by listening and pressure testing is usually a fraction of the total, and the bigger variable is where the pipe is. A line in an accessible attic or crawl space costs less to reach than one under a concrete slab, and rerouting a line overhead can cost less than breaking the floor. Restoring the floor, drywall and finishes after a repair is separate again, and is often not included in a plumbing quote, so ask. The slab leak page and leak detection page explain each step.
Fixtures and gas piping
Disposals are a short job whose price follows the unit: horsepower, feed type and whether the sink flange and outlet are ready. A jam or a loose connection costs less than a new disposal, so describe what happens when you switch it on. See garbage disposal page.
Gas work is priced by the length of the run, the pressure test that makes it safe and the appliance connection. Any digging adds to the figure. If you smell gas, leave the building and call Dominion Energy South Carolina at 800-815-0083 and 911 before thinking about cost. See gas line repair page.
Jobs that need a conversation before any number
We do not list a range for toilet repair, faucet and sink repair, bathroom plumbing, burst pipe repair, leak detection on its own or water damage removal and drying. The jobs vary too much for a number to help, and a figure from another city could mislead you. Describe the problem on the call, and we will say what is involved. Septic tanks, sump pumps and backflow devices are outside our work, so we show no prices for them.
Questions to ask before any plumber starts work
Ask what the price includes: parts, permits, disposal of the old unit, venting, a pressure test and cleanup. Ask what would change it, such as rotted pipe behind a wall or a cracked line found on camera. Ask whether the price changes with the time of day of the visit. Ask for the answers in writing. Check that the plumber holds the license South Carolina requires for residential work over $500, using verify.llronline.com. Our FAQs cover licensing and permits, and the areas we serve page shows where we work.
